Using Pillows to Stage Your House to Sell in Mission Viejo

A crucial part of effective Mission Viejo home staging is using pillows to stage your house in your family room, living room, and bedrooms. Of course, using pillows tUsing Pillows to stage your Mission Viejo house to sello stage your house presumes that you’ve prepped these rooms by removing the dirt, clutter, personal items, and anything that doesn’t fit into your basic one to three color scheme of either complimentary colors or ever-so-poshly contrasting colors. Remember, using pillows to stage your house when selling your Mission Viejo home, every detail counts and makes an impression on potential buyers.

You probably don’t have enough pillows on hand, in the appropriate theme-friendly colors, to accomplish the most effective Mission Viejo home staging job.  This is easy to fix and will help you with selling your home.  Grab something that represents each of your one to three anchor colors for each room (this means the living room, family room, and every one of your bedrooms) and off you go to Stein Mart, Ikea, Home Goods, Target, and the local thrift store.  Grab all the pillows you can find that match your color scheme(s).

You’ll want at least three to four rows of pillows on each bed, groups of three pillows on each of your couches, and what we in the staging business call “vignettes” of groups of one to three pillows on love seats and chairs.  It is fine if you make a trip for each room in order to maintain your color and theme focus. It is really easy to be overwhelmed by pillows.  Be sure to ask for help while you’re shopping.  On a recent staging run I made, I actually laid all the pillows and bedding on the floor and had three shoppers offer suggestions on what looked best.  One was even a professional decorator who gave me her advice and a big “thumbs up.” Nice! Don’t hesitate to get the opinions of others. It will help you to be more confident in your selections while increasing the ease of selling your home.

When selecting pillows, you’ll want some solid colored pillows, some simply geometric prints, and some accent pillows.  Be sure to select a range of sizes as well.  Think of your job as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for the sale of your house.  If your house can handle a little “bling,” throw in a couple of pillows with sequins, crystals, gold piping, and tassels. You can also consider going big with an animal scheme with leopard, zebra, giraffe, and tiger prints.

Once you get all the pillows back home, it may feel a bit uncomfortable. You’re going to be putting these pillows in places where you and/or other family members normally sit.  That’s the downside to staging, you have to give up a little bit on how you normally live in your house.  You can also place the pillows in a different location once people have vacated and put them back out every morning to get your house ready to show.  These are sales props, people.  Just move them when you need to and make it easy to “place” them back when there’s someone coming to see your house.

Another crucial part of pillowing your house involves the Karate Chop. You must learn to face your pillows head on, put your dominant arm straight out, hold your hand with fingers together in a vertical position, and hit the middle of each pillow with your pinky first in a quick Karate Chop.  This should make a perfect V-shaped in the pillow.  The V-shaped pillow has be known to attract more offers when selling your home than a bread machine or home baked chocolate chip cookies. Please note, most pillows do not naturally hold the V shape, so you’ll have to Karate Chop frequently.  The more attention you give to small details like using pillows to stage your house, the more effective your Orange County CA home staging will be in helping you to sell your house.
