When to Change Paint, Wallpaper, and Carpet to Get Your Mission Viejo Home Sold

As a serious Mission Viejo home seller, you are obviously looking to get your home sold as quickly as possible for the most money possible – right?

Does your house need to be painted to sell quickly for top dollar? Take the following quiz to find out:

  • Are the walls painted to match the pastel wallpaper border you put up 15 years ago?
  • Are any of the rooms of your home painted Chocolate Cabernet Red, Thomas the Tank Blue, Big Bird Yellow, or Cookie Monster Green?
  • Would Ty Pennington and his design team want to re-paint your home?
  • Are your walls the same Swiss Mocha (code word for off-white) that the builder painted them during construction?
  • Are there chips, marks, dings, scuffs, on any of the walls in your house?
  • Do you have any custom murals, purple faux paint, or floral stencils on any of the walls in your home?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, you should think about painting your home.  Or adjust the price to allow for the buyer to repaint.

Do you need to remove the wallpaper in your home to get it sold?  Take this quiz to find out:

  • Was it selected by a professional decorator with exceptional taste and will it enhance the appearance of anyone’s furniture and accessories?    If no, take it down.  And repaint. Or offer the buyer an allowance to remove the wallpaper and repaint since you know they will need to.  Just know that buyers often way over estimate how much it will cost to remove wall paper.

Do you need to replace the carpet in your home?  Take this quick quiz to find out:

  • Is your carpet stained?
  • Is your carpet a bold, unique color or pattern that only matches your furniture, accessories, or taste?
  • Is your carpet frayed or are there holes in the carpet?
  • Does your carpet smell like cat or dog or Iguana pee?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you should consider re-carpeting your home before you put your home on the market to sell – or offer a carpet allowance to the buyer, since you know they will need to change the carpet.
